Daily Schedule

A schedule is a discipline. You might speak of the daily schedule at New Melleray Abbey as a discipline of clarification. Through the Divine Office, through private prayer and lectio divina, and through simple ascetical practices, a monk clarifies his sense of who he is, his place in the community and his membership in the Church. You do not come to this clarity by yourself alone. As a monk in a community of brothers, you have the support of others in unity of spirit. You pray with them, take your meals with them, work along with them at Trappist Caskets, in the garden, and in the various services, all the while cultivating the mindfulness of God.

On the first Monday of each month the community has a retreat day. The Liturgy of the Hours is offered privately, not in Church. Mass, however, is offered in Church as usual at 8:00 AM.
