Conversion of Importance

Lent 2022
March 4–6, 2022
New Melleray Abbey

Lent is a time of conversion. The heart that is converted; there is a change in what affects it. Specifically, it is the heart’s sense of importance that is converted. What matters most? How does all else in one’s life line up behind it? Is our end in life the multiplication of satisfaction experiences? Or is it something more enduring? The gospel Call to conversion is a call to a change in what matters most and our love for it. Conversion is a gift of God; it happens to us. We are to “prepare a way for the Lord”. We pay attention! We will discuss how to do this.

In preparation, participants will want to read and reflect on the following: Matthew. 4:16-17; Matthew. 6:21; Matthew 6:424; Matthew 13:45; Lamentations 5:21; John 6:24. Relate them to your life experience.

This silent retreat will begin with 5:30 p.m. Vespers on Friday and the retreat will conclude after the 9 a.m. Mass on Sunday morning, with a closing blessing. A suggested donation of $190 is asked of those staying at the abbey guesthouse; $85 is suggested for those who do not plan to stay overnight at the Abbey. The donation includes meals & materials. A $20 non-refundable deposit is requested. For more information contact Fr. Jonah at New Melleray Abbey: (563) 588-2319 ext 100, or visit the Abbey’s website at www.newmelleray.org
