Mass and Liturgy Schedule Changes for Thursday Oct 12

The Mass of Remembrance for all those recently buried in a Trappist casket or urn is our community's Mass for Thursday, Oct. 12. It replaces our usual 7:00am celebration of the Eucharist. Additionally, we will pray Terce at 8:00am (instead of 9:15am) and will then perform our morning manual labor from 8:15am to 10:15am. The Mass will also take the place of the midday Office of Sext.

New Melleray Liturgy of the Hours

from Rule of St. Benedict : Chapter 16. The Celebration of the Divine Office During the Day
The Prophet says:Seven times a day have I praise you (Ps 118:164). We will fulfill this sacred number of seven if we satisfy our obligations of service at Lauds, Prime, Terce, Sext, None, Vespers, and Compline.

Monk Assembling a Casket

from Rule of St. Benedict : Chapter 48. The Daily Manual Labor
Idleness is the enemy of the soul. Therefore, the brothers should have specified periods for manual labor as well as for prayerful reading.
