May Information Forum

Today we held our monthly gathering to share personal news and updates on the goings-on within the monastery, the region, and the Order. Though still more than a year away, the subject of New Melleray’s 170th anniversary came up with initial thoughts on marking the occasion. Already in the works is the refurbishment of our choir stalls and desks. 2019 also marks the 900th anniversary of the Cistercian Charter of Charity. Fr. Mark shared plans underway at Our Lady of Dallas to celebrate. Additionally, one of the brothers shared his experience of briefly hosting three Vietnamese Order of Cistercian monks who visited New Melleray last weekend. Liturgically we learned that our new Mass gradual is now at the printer and we will soon begin familiarizing ourselves with its contents. Other updates included the upcoming interviews of two forester candidates, the addressing of special requests in the work schedule based on capabilities and availabilities of various brothers, the health of our most senior monk, and the troubleshooting of our church audio system.

about Information Forum

The purpose of the Information Forum is to provide an opportunity for brothers publicly to give information or news about themselves or their departments and areas of responsibility that will be of interest to the community or important for the brothers to know.

The Information Forum is a response to:

Constitution 16 of the Order, “Active Participation of the Brothers: the brothers are called to mutual care, mutual co-operation, and mutual obedience. … The abbot and the officials are to communicate to the brothers what concerns all and readily accept their desires and suggestions” (16.2,4).

Priority One of the Transition Process 2012:

Whatever we do, we need to do it together in the community as a whole.

May Information Forum

This morning we gathered for our monthly Information Forum to share news about personal items and the goings-on within the monastery, the region, and the Order.  This month’s information largely pertained to manual labor with regard to new housecleaning assignments and to priorities, expectations, and accountability at Trappist Caskets.
