Advent: Guard of the Heart

Caring About the Baby

Advent 2022
November 25–27, 2022

We care for, and we care that. Jesus calls us to care about. What we care about guides our lives and our conduct. It is important to us that we care about something most, and that we are dedicated to it. Such caring connects us to our lives. It connects our decisions and actions to what we are making of ourselves.

The baby points to what is most to be cared about.  He grows to tell us to “Repent! [Change what you care about most] Believe in the Good News! [Care most about the kingdom of God].” God’s love is not determined by the worthiness of the object of His love. Because He is love, He doesn’t need a reason outside of Himself. In this retreat we will learn how the importance of God to us depends on our caring about Him.

This silent retreat will begin at 5:30 on Friday evening and conclude with a closing blessing after the 9 a.m. Sunday Mass.  A free-will donation is asked; $200 is suggested ($100 is suggested for commuters who do not stay overnight at the abbey). Meals, linens, and towels are provided.  For additional information, contact Fr. Jonah, chaplain@newmelleray.org.
