Friday in the Twenty-Sixth Week of Ordinary Time

Jesus rebukes Chorazim and Bethsaida for their failure to believe after seeing His deeds. They have a poor sense of importance. He tells them they care most about worthless things.

Jesus wants us to care most about the Father. Something is important to us because it makes a difference. The importance is proportioned to the difference. And we care about it in proportion to the difference it makes and thus its importance. If we care about it deeply it is because it makes the most significant difference in one’s life. And when we care about it deeply we are willing to be guided by it.

In other words, the test of how deeply we care is in our willingness to do something about it.
