Independence Day

Scripture Readings: Hos 2:16, 17-18, 21-22; Mt 9:18-26

“Your faith has saved you”(Mt. 9:22).

Long ago the great French historian, Alexis de Tocqueville, toured America. He writes, “I sought for the greatness of the United States in her commodious harbors, her ample rivers, her fertile fields and boundless forests—and it was not there. I sought for it in her rich mines, her vast world commerce, her public school system and in her institutions of higher learning—and it was not there. I looked for it in her democratic Congress and her matchless Constitution—and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America … did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because America is good, and if America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great. … It will either change its laws and ways of living or perish.”

We are here this morning to express our love of the goodness in America and to pray that the America we love may not fall victim to what is evil and then perish, but rather grow even greater in all that is true, good and beautiful

Independence Day

[Scripture Readings: Is 32:15-18; Mt 5:38-48 ]

Long ago the great French historian, Alexis de Tocqueville, toured America. He writes, “I sought for the greatness of the United States in her commodious harbors, her ample rivers, her fertile fields and boundless forests–and it was not there. I sought for it in her rich mines, her vast world commerce, her public school system and in her institutions of higher learning–and it was not there. I looked for it in her democratic Congress and her matchless Constitution–and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America … did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because America is good, and if America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great. … It will either change it's laws and ways of living or perish.”

We are here this morning to express our love for the goodness in America and to pray that the America we love may not fall victim to what is evil and then perish, but rather grow even greater in all that is true, good and beautiful.
