Monday in First Week of Ordinary Time
“[Christ] is the refulgence of [the Father’s] glory, the very imprint of his being, who sustains all things by his mighty word” (Heb. 1:3). In Christ, the messenger is the message. When we ponder the power, wisdom, and goodness of the Beloved Son, we are, pondering the power, wisdom, and goodness of the Father (CF, Jn 14:7). In Christ, the power, wisdom, and mercy of the Father are made visible and tangible. We can almost feel Paul’s ecstasy as he wrote: “Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! His judgments are unsearchable, and his ways unfathomable” (Rom. 11:33). we can’t thank God enough for his faithfulness and infinite mercy.
Since that dreadful day in Eden, God has continued reaching out to his erring children. From age to age, he invited the prophets to feel his heart’s movements and speak of his abiding love. Now, in the fullness of time, God gave us his heart in the person of his Only-begotten Son. Now, no longer looking down at us from his heavenly throne, he walks among us as companion and guide. Not merely speaking words of comfort to the wayward, but personally seeking out the lost, applying a healing balm to their wounds, and carrying them close to his heart. The decision is ours to make: Are we willing to be sought, found, and allow our hearts to be healed?
Let nothing disturb you.
Let nothing frighten you.
All things pass away.
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things.
They who have God
lack nothing.
God alone is enough.
(Saint Teresa of Avila)
