Monday in the Seventh Week of Easter

Jesus tells us, “I have told you this so that you will have peace in me…I have conquered the world.”

“The world” is the society of the self-seeking and all that is offered them for the seeking. Before one seeks, though, one has to feel the emptiness. It seems that media advertising and monastic life are designed to stimulate that empty feeling. The world goads us to seek satisfaction over and over again. Satisfaction is never attained once-and-for-all. “Our hearts are restless…”

Then Jesus tells us, “You will have peace in me.” That’s where the restless heart will find rest. He has conquered the world of dissatisfaction. He did it by being—once and forever—enough.
