Monday in the Thirtheenth Week of Ordinary Time
When Mother Teresa of Calcutta was 18 years old and leaving home to join the Loreto Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary, her mother said to her, “Put your hand in [Jesus’] hand, and walk with him. Look ahead, because if you look back you will go back.” She never looked back, and today she’s a saint.
Once Fr. Pius was asked if he ever wanted to go back to Ireland which he had left behind as a young man. He reflected for a moment and then said, “No, I don’t want to go back, I want to go up.”
Very ordinary actions give direction to our love. Like getting out of bed for Vigils or Mass. Or, pausing at the beginning of meals to ask a blessing. Or, opening one’s wallet to help a person in need. Or, extending one’s hands to receive the Eucharist. It’s these little ordinary actions frequently repeated that make great saints.
