Saturday in the Twenty-Fifth Week of Ordinary Time

“Follow the ways of your heart, the vision of your eyes” (Eccl. 11:9). These are important words for a society that has lost touch with its heart, its inner self. God is speaking to us in the depths of our hearts. We must listen to what he is saying. In his word is our hope. Alexander Pope wrote:

Hope springs eternal in the human breast;
Man never Is, but always To be blest.
The soul, uneasy, and confin’d from home,
Rests and expatiates in a life to come.

(Alexander Pope, An Essay on Man)

To enjoy joy in this life and the future, we need to be attentive to the voice of God echoing within us. The Word of god is alive and active, it is an anchor of hope for a world marked with conflict and pain. The Living Word desires to enter communion with us and share all our joys, hopes, problems, and struggles. Are we willing to meet him, at least halfway, and listen?

“Christ is alive and he loves you with an infinite love. His love for you is unaffected by your failings or your mistakes. He gave his life for you, so in his love for you he does not wait for you to be perfect. Look at his arms outstretched on the cross, and let yourself be saved repeatedly.  Walk with him as with a friend, welcome him into your life” (Pope Francis).
