Thursday in the Sixteenth Week of Ordinary Time
[Scripture Readings: Jer 2:1-3, 7-8, 12-13; Mt 13:10-17]
What a blessing to see what we see, and to hear what we hear! “To [us] it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven.” Not secrets that only a few people know, but secrets in the sense of mysteries that go beyond our senses, that need revelation to be seen and heard.
We see and hear Jesus as the Son of God who revealed ” … this precious and very great promise, that we are to become sharers in God's divine nature” (2 Peter 1:1-4).
St Augustine proclaims, “God became man so that man might become God,” not divine persons, but sharing their divine nature.
And in an ecstasy of joy, St. John of the Cross exclaims, “… we possess the same goods by participation that the Son possesses by nature. We are divine, equals and companions of God.”
Earth is our womb. We are waiting to be born, this time into heaven as divine beings. What a blessing we have, to see what we see, and to hear what we hear!
