Thursday in the Thirtieth Week of Ordinary Time

[Scripture Readings: Eph 6:10-20; Lk 13:31-35 ]

Jesus is on his final journey. He will be put to death not by Herod, but by Jerusalem, by the very people who are warning him about Herod's malicious intentions. They hide their own evil intentions under the cloak of good will.

Today there are many warnings about the evils threatening us from terrorists, ISIS, Ebola, financial meltdown, and weapons of mass destruction. But all the while the greatest threat to our security and wellbeing is in our own backyard, in everyone of our cities. It is abortion in all its forms. When will we protect our children as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings so that we, too, can say, “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord”?
