Votive Mass for Christian Unity

[Scripture Readings: 1 Cor 15:12-20; Lk 8:1-3 ]

We believe in the power of prayer, and what prayer could be more powerful than that of our Lord Jesus Christ? But his prayer that all may be one has not yet been fulfilled. Christians are still divided. The reason cannot be because of anything lacking in his prayer. So, the reason must be due to some hardness of our hearts.

In our times we do not have to look very far to find a great hardness of heart in the human family. Since 1980 there have been over one and a half billion abortions worldwide. 1   I shudder at the thought of it.  That’s more than 108,000 per day.  Imagine atomic bombs being dropped on cities that size every day for 40 years, killing over 100,000 persons each time. Never before in human history have so many people been united and cooperated in their own way with killing those who are innocent and helpless.  There can be no true love where there’s so much hardness of heart.

May we continue to pray and work for the unity that Christ so desires, and for the complete protection of the right to life of all the children that are created by our heavenly Father’s love.
