Wednesday in the Seventh Week of Easter at Mississippi Abbey
“And now I commend you to God, and to that gracious word of His that can build you up.” Again, we hear of God making us better than we found ourselves.
How do we become reverent, humble, faithful, grateful, and caring? These virtues build us up; how do we get them? We get them by paying wholehearted attention to God and seeing the world by His word…the way He sees it. We do this by engaging in regular spiritual practices in a community. This is how we get the dispositions and actions of discipleship. That’s how we put principles before personality; that’s how being a Christian forms the core of our identity…and that is what it’s like to be a Christian…on the inside.
