Serving Each Other
A lot of our work in the monastery is devoted to serving one another. Service in the community includes care for elderly monks in the infirmary, music, cooking, laundry and tailoring, house-cleaning, accounting and book-keeping, grounds keeping, as well as plumbing, electricity, and carpentry. Any number of skills finds a place in the monastery, and if you don’t have a skill you will certainly learn one to offer back as a gift to your brothers. If you manifest a particular talent you might be offered the opportunity for additional education or training to refine that gift. Over time, a monk may develop real expertise and competency in his area of work, but always the motivation for work is that a human being fully alive give glory to the God who created him.
